Barry Rae Lives in Lake Havasu City

Four years, full time. Five to seven service calls a month in Lake Havasu City. He is not driving in from another city and he is not sending a different technician every visit. Barry answers the phone and Barry does the work. He has been in HVAC since 2000, holds AZ ROC License #360880, and is NATE certified.

Why HVAC Systems Fail Faster in Lake Havasu City

Four stresses stack on a Lake Havasu City system, and they all peak at the same time of year. None of them are unique to this area on their own. Together they explain most of what Barry gets called out for.

Rooftop units take the full sun

Lake Havasu City has a high share of rooftop packaged units. They sit wide open with no shade and no protection. When ambient air is above 110 degrees, the condenser cannot reject heat efficiently, head pressure climbs, and amp draw climbs with it. That extra current generates heat inside a control compartment that is already hot. A standard run capacitor is rated to about 149 degrees Fahrenheit. On a Havasu roof in August, it is working at or past that rating every afternoon. Capacitors and fan motors are what Barry replaces most often here.

Monsoon season adds a load the system was not carrying

Arizona monsoon season runs June 15 to September 30. In dry desert air, nearly all of a system's capacity goes to lowering temperature. When dew points rise during monsoon, part of that same fixed capacity gets spent condensing moisture instead. The system runs longer to reach the same thermostat setting. Longer runtime is what drives the rest. It also means condensate drain lines that sat dry for nine months suddenly start running, and lines packed with dust back up.

Blowing dust can foul condenser coils

Air here is dominated by coarse mineral dust rather than smoke or exhaust, and that is the particle size that packs into condenser fin spacing. Finding a dusty coil is not uncommon, particularly on a system that has gone a year or more without service. When a coil is fouled it rejects less heat, which raises head pressure and amp draw, and that adds load to electrical components already running hot. It is one possible contributor among several rather than something anyone can point to as the cause of a specific failure. Annual service is what keeps it off the list.

Lake Havasu Homes Are Built Differently Than Parker Homes

Lake Havasu City is mostly stick built homes on foundations, and the ductwork runs through the attic. Parker has far more manufactured and mobile homes, where ductwork runs underneath the house and rodents get at it. Havasu also runs a much higher share of rooftop packaged units. Those differences change what fails, where the access problems are, and what a correct installation looks like. Barry works both markets and treats them differently because they are different.

Neighborhoods Barry Services in Lake Havasu City

Barry covers all of Lake Havasu City. That includes The Refuge, Havasu Riviera, Havasu Foothills Estates, Sailing Hawks and The Coves, Canterbury Estates, Lakeridge Estates, Grand Island Estates, Viewpoint Estates, North Pointe, Desert Rose Estates, Glen Eagles Golf Estates, Sun Lake Village, Havasu Heights, the Cherry Tree area, Residential Estates around the golf courses off Acoma Boulevard, The Island, Desert Hills, Crystal Beach, and Downtown, along with residential work throughout the rest of the city.

Where you live changes what Barry expects to find. Havasu Riviera and Havasu Foothills Estates are newer construction, so most of that equipment is still inside its manufacturer parts coverage and the calls there tend to be service and maintenance rather than replacement. The Island, Residential Estates, Desert Hills, and Crystal Beach hold much of the city's older housing stock, and that is where the twenty to forty year old systems are. Those are the units where a failed compressor turns into a replacement conversation instead of a repair.

Lake Havasu City runs across three residential zip codes: 86403 covers central and south including The Island and Residential Estates, 86404 covers north and northeast, and 86406 covers south and the foothills including Havasu Riviera and The Refuge. Barry services all three.

What HVAC Service Costs in Lake Havasu City

Amazing AC is a flat rate company. The price Barry quotes is the total you pay, labor included. Estimates for new work are free and there is no trip fee during regular business hours. If your system is down and Barry comes out to diagnose it, the service call is $77. Go ahead with the repair and that $77 rolls into the flat rate for the job. Decide not to, and the $77 diagnostic is all you pay.

    ServicePrice
    Capacitor replacement$200 to $300
Condenser fan motor, depending on the motor$400 to $800
    Drain line work$100 to $200
Refrigerant leak repair and compressor work, up to $2,500 on a fully loaded compressor replacement$500 to $1,000
Complete system replacement, depending on size and equipment$7,000 to $9,500

After hours and emergency call outs add a $125 to $250 fee on top of the job price. That is the only surcharge, and Barry tells you about it before he comes out.

Labor warranty is one to two years depending on the work. Manufacturer parts coverage runs ten to twelve years depending on the equipment.
